Faith at a Glance

Our Catholic faith is woven into the whole life of our school:  the classroom, the church, the gymnasium and the hallways.   How is this reflected in the daily and weekly schedule at the school?

The Classroom
  • Each school day begins with prayer in the classroom, asking the Lord’s blessings over the day.
  • Once a week we pray the Rosary before the school day begins.
  • Religion is one of the regular classes for our students and we strive for excellence here just as we do in all of the other subjects.
  • For our second graders, the religion class also includes preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and their First Communion.
  • Classes may take time to pray for special needs during the day such as a sick classmate or family member.
  • Each school day ends with prayer together in the classroom, thanking God for the blessings of the day as we prepare to go home.
The Church
  • During the school day our teachers may bring the students to church for a time of quiet prayer, including the opportunity for Eucharistic Adoration on Fridays. This silent and peaceful prayer is our response to the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.
  • Seasonally, special times of prayer are also built-in to the week, such as Reconciliation and Stations of the Cross.

  • The highlight of each week is our Thursday school Mass.  The Eucharist is the heart and center of our faith.  Our parish priests lead us in the celebration of the Mass, with our students assisting in music, readings, altar serving and gift bearing.  The weekly school Mass brings the entire school body together, including many of our school parents and grandparents.

The Gymnasium
  • CYO Basketball games begin with prayer.
  • The students are encouraged to participate in physical activity both during gym class and during recess time, always being mindful of respecting one another while having fun in a competitive environment.
The Hallways
  • The students are taught to always be aware of the Lord's presence even when they are walking through the hallways.  These moments are opportunities to prepare for the next class or to show compassion by helping another student.
