In all grades, the following media skills are either introduced, reviewed, or mastered:

• Knowing the difference between fiction and non-fiction books
• Fiction books are in order by author’s last name
• Non-fiction books are in order by the Dewey Decimal System
• Knowing the Dewey Decimal System by classification
• Identifying genres of literature
• Knowledge of reference books:  atlas, dictionary, almanac, encyclopedia, etc.
• Basic knowledge of the internet and how to retrieve information from it
• Identifying and writing a bibliography
• Writing a research paper with a bibliography
• Find information within a variety of sources
• Identifying plagiarism and using proper citations
