Celebrating Cultural Diversity at OLPH School
On Wednesday, April 2nd, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School joyfully celebrated the richness of our community during our annual Cultural Arts Day. It was a vibrant and meaningful event that invited parents and students to share their cultural heritage through artifacts, traditional clothing, dance, music, language, imagery, and more. With over a dozen countries represented—including Cuba, South Korea, Italy, Nigeria, China, Vietnam, India, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Germany—our school transformed into a true mosaic of cultures from around the globe.
This day was more than just a celebration of traditions; it was a reflection of the strength that comes from celebrating our differences. Honoring each other’s backgrounds creates a more profound sense of unity within our school family.
As Ephesians 4:2–3 reminds us: “With all lowliness and gentleness, with long suffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”
By embracing the many cultures represented in our student body, we aren’t just learning about one another—we’re learning how to live out the Gospel through love, respect, and community.
Our Principal, Mr. Pressimone, captured the spirit of the day beautifully:
“We held our Cultural Arts Day [last week], where some incredible members of our diverse school community shared part of their own cultures with the entire school. The displays were interactive and so informational! I was incredibly impressed by the parents and students who gave so much of themselves and by our students, who were excited to engage and respectful of every presenter.
The afternoon concluded with a pair of Indian dancers who led a fun and educational session, teaching the components of their traditional dance style. As I walked around, taking in the sights and sounds, I felt deeply blessed to be part of this community. One of OLPH’s greatest strengths is its diversity—and the many experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds our families bring with them each day.
These are the kinds of lessons our students will carry with them for years to come. At one point, I leaned over to Mrs. Kerns, who—along with Mrs. Young—graciously and expertly coordinated the event, and said to her, ‘This is a day our students will never forget.’”
We are immensely grateful to everyone who participated and shared part of themselves with us, making this event a powerful expression of connection and celebration. It is through our diversity that we find strength and in our unity that we find purpose.
