Annual Fund Drive

Perpetual Difference Logo

The OLPH School Annual Fund Drive (AFD) provides necessary financial support for our school to cover basic operating expenses and make essential improvements to our academic program and our facilities.  Just as continual progress is expected from our students, it is vital to the school’s mission as well. Your support allows OLPH to further its mission of providing academic excellence while bringing the love of Christ to all who pass through our doors.

If you have any questions, please contact our Director of Development, Patti Hewat at 410-744-4251 ext. 223 or

We invite you to discover how your support translates into Making a Perpetual Difference for the students, staff and faculty of OLPH School.

Why is an Annual Fund Drive Necessary?

The Annual Fund Drive (AFD) serves a crucial role in advancing the mission of OLPH School.  Your support of the AFD allows us to

  • maintain academic excellence
  • attract and retain highly qualified faculty and staff
  • make facilities improvements
  • upgrade educational technology
  • minimize tuition increases

A high level of community participation is a crucial factor which charitable foundations look for when awarding grants.  The foundations look at the level of financial participation as a way to gauge the “health” of an organization judging it as thriving or not.  So the reality is, the greater number of supporters they see from the community, the greater the financial support we will receive from these grant institutions.  We need to maintain a broad base of support from alumni, parishioners, school families, grandparents, faculty, staff, School Board, Development Board, local business and large corporations to show we are indeed a school worthy of investment as backed by a sturdy-active  community.

What Does the AFD Fund?

Every year, a portion of the AFD goes toward the operating budget, and a portion is allocated for a specific purpose. This year we are renovating the areas of Harrison Hall; the art room, the restrooms, and the air handling system. The art room will be transformed into an educational makerspace, a multi-use area that will supplement our current science, technology, engineering, arts, religion, and math programs. Read more.

In the past few years, the generous support from our community has allowed us to

  • build an Interactive Learning Center, the iLC
  • furnish the iLC with an operable partition, allowing for simultaneous use by two separate classes
  • equip every classroom with white boards and interactive projectors
  • provide new science equipment and materials
  • upgrade our technology infrastructure
  • purchase laptops

What is the Tuition Gap?

As with the majority of Catholic schools, tuition and fees cover 80% of the cost to educate each student. This creates a “Gap” which needs to be covered each year by parish support, fundraising and development.  If we simply raised tuition to fill the “GAP”, it would make tuition cost-prohibitive for many families. Our goal is to make Catholic education accessible to as many families as possible, and share the word of God with all who seek Him.

Why is My Participation Important?

Strong participation is a crucial factor for receiving grant awards from charitable foundations. We need to maintain a broad base of support for our Annual Fund Drive as we consistently seek foundational support.  Participation from alumni, parishioners, school families, grandparents, faculty, staff, School Board, Development Board, local business and large corporations help position us favorably as we submit grant requests. Our strong track record has helped us receive grants from the Marion I. and Henry J. Knott Foundation, The Raskob Foundation, the Armed Forces Communication and Electronics Association, Verizon, and The State of Maryland.

Will My Employer Match my Gift and/or Volunteer Hours?

We sure hope so! Many large companies will match financial gifts as well as donate to our school in appreciation for your volunteer hours.  Our school receive thousands of dollars EVERY year from these two opportunities from corporations such as Merck, Northrop Grumman, Cisco, Verizon, T. Rowe Price, Microsoft, and many more.  To find out if your company participates in gift matching or volunteer grants, you can inquire from your Human Resources Department, or go to

Requesting a matching gift or volunteer grant is typically a five minute process which must be initiated by you, the donor / volunteer. You can do this by filling out and submitting a paper match form provided by your employer or through an electronic submission process.

People are Saying…

“As a parent, I see my daughter more excited about learning and wanting to be in the classroom, especially since the implementation of the new interactive projectors and the iLC. She talks more about her school day and the tools she is using to learn. As a donor, I see that it has been a great investment in our school.” ~ Elizabeth Rendon-Sherman, school parent, CEO LG-TEK

“I believe strongly is the mission of OLPH School and understand that my support directly benefits students, teachers, and staff. Giving is simply part of living out my Christian faith. I am happy to help create an environment where students receive a rigorous education to prepare them for high school, and spiritual formation that will serve them for life.” ~ Alumni parent
