OLPH School BizTown Field Trip
Recently, our fifth-grade students participated in an immersive and unforgettable field trip to the local Junior Achievement center, BizTown. This unique educational experience offered students a hands-on introduction to the world of economics, business, financial literacy, and professional responsibility.
BizTown is designed to replicate a functioning town, complete with storefronts and branded businesses such as Chick-fil-A, Bank of America, Stanley Black & Decker, Aerotek, and more. Each student took on a job within one of these businesses, assuming roles that ranged from CEO to CFO, sales associate, or customer service representative. Through these roles, students had the opportunity to engage in authentic workplace tasks—balancing budgets, managing inventory, providing services, and interacting with fellow citizens.
More than just a simulation, BizTown challenged students to understand the broader implications of their work. They quickly discovered how every role, big or small, contributes to a thriving community. Through the lens of their assigned responsibilities, students explored key concepts such as:
- Corporate social responsibility – understanding how businesses give back to their communities.
- Supply and demand – recognizing the importance of consumers, producers, and product availability.
- Money management – learning how to earn, save, spend, and budget wisely.
- Free enterprise systems – seeing firsthand how businesses operate and compete in a market economy.
This hands-on experience reinforced classroom learning in a dynamic way and inspired students to think critically about the roles they may one day play in society. It also helped build confidence, collaboration, and communication skills—foundational tools for any future career.
We are proud of how our students rose to the occasion, fully embracing the opportunity to step into adult roles and apply real-world skills in a supportive, engaging environment
