OLPH School Welcomes Assistant Principal Nick Caputo

OLPH School Welcomes Assistant Principal Nick Caputo

Our Lady of Perpetual Help School has welcomed Assistant Principal Nick Caputo to our community as a member of the administrative team and a math teacher. He joined the staff on October 1st, jumping right in to help at the OLPH Fall Festival. We’d love for you to get to know Mr. Caputo more.

Education and Experience

Nick is entering his 17th year in education having previously worked as a middle school science and math teacher at Resurrection St. Paul and as a chemistry and biology teacher at DeMatha Catholic High School. Never really feeling the urge to take an entire summer off, he worked at the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth since 2014. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, where he majored in (you guessed it) chemistry with a double major in secondary education. He then continued on at UMD to earn his Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on science education. Finally, Nick earned a Certificate in Administration and Supervision from Loyola University in Baltimore. So we are clearly very blessed by the investment Nick has made in his education.

Life Outside of School

Mr. Caputo teaches teaches math to 4-8 graders at OLPH School.

Nick is a Maryland native to the core, although he is a fan of the Washington, DC sports teams. We all choose not to judge him. This summer he and his wife welcomed their first child, Andrew, calling him Andy. In his spare time, he enjoys grilling on the deck, tending to a vegetable garden, running, and hiking in the woods. His favorite places to visit are Ocean City (Maryland of course!), Williamsburg, New York, and Minnesota where his wife calls home.

Vision for Math at OLPH

Nick has been tasked with overseeing the math program at OLPH.  Our math skills at OLPH are strong, but Nick, using data from Scantron test scores, will help identify areas that can be improved even further.  He will help facilitate unique professional development opportunities for the faculty, which will help them enhance the math instruction in their classrooms to bolster our scores even further, and hopefully, become one of the top math schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

We are so very blessed to welcome Nick Caputo to the OLPH family!
