Shadow
The two-fold purpose of a Shadow Day at OLPH is for a prospective family to gauge the overall fit of the school and how well the student matches the mission of the school.
Getting the Most out of your Shadow Day
Drop Off 8:30 – 8:45 AM
Pick Up 3:15 – 3:30 PM
at the Front Office
Prepare
As a family prepare how you will evaluate your experience on campus. What is important to experience and what questions do you or your child(ren) still have yet to be answered? What do you need to know in order to make the best decision for your family?
Students at OLPH wear a uniform to school everyday. Your child doe not need to wear the uniform but if they feel like “blending in” they can wear navy bottoms and a white top, which will match our uniform.
Engage
As a parent, bring your questions and take a few minutes to chat with an admissions team member while you are on campus and drop off or pick up.
As a student, fully engage in the class activities throughout the day. If you know an answer, raise your hand and participate. Also, ask lots of questions to the student you are shadowing.
Reflect
The most crucial part of a Shadow Day that often gets overlooked is the family debrief and discussion that evening. What did your student see, hear and feel throughout the day? What were the positives? What are they uncertain about? Do they see themselves at OLPH? Make sure to explore as much as they can remember as you decide what’s best for your family.
What Happens During the Shadow Day?
Drop off your student in the front office between 8:30 – 8:45 AM.
Your child will be introduced to the student they will be paired with to shadow for the day.
They will spend the day with the class, attending core subjects, specials, lunch and recess.
One of our teachers will use a period to screen your child. Depending on the grade different forms of screening will be used, but will include math and reading.
